Kali Berthiaume came on to toss four innings of relief, earning the victory in the pitching circle to power Frontier Red to a 22-11 win over Ludlow in Suburban Softball League 12-and-under action at Baird Middle School in Ludlow on Wednesday night.
Berthiaume was also 3-for-3 with three RBI in the win, while Hailey Hutkoski smacked a three-run double for Frontier Red. Tia Gottschalk totaled three hits and drove in three runs, while Gabby Frangie added two hits and three RBI in the slugfest.
Frontier Red (2-1) is right back in action tonight when it hosts West Springfield at Merritt Field in Sunderland (6 p.m.).
• Elsewhere, Kameryn Dearborn struck out 12 batters in a complete-game effort, but the Greenfield Grizzlies lost a tight 3-1 contest to SoHo Heat in 12-and-under action at Parker Field in Southampton.
Brie Widelo had a double and scored the lone run for the Grizzlies (2-1), while Kaitlin Trudeau and Alysia Knapp added singles on the night.
Greenfield returns to action on Friday night when it hosts Agawam No. 2 at Murphy Park (6 p.m.).
• In other action, Maria Konieczny tripled and singled, but Frontier Blue dropped an 11-5 decision to Southwick in 12-and-under play at Merritt Field.
Izzy Palmisano and Megan Jolly each had two hits for Frontier Blue, while Jillian Apanell, Daisy Venditti and Delaney Fifield all contributed a hit. Kylie Laford and Kaelyn Zakaitis had two strikeouts apiece in the circle.
Sandy Koufax
Tom Alber picked up the victory on the mound and added a pair of hits to lead Frontier Alber Hearing to a 7-1 win over Palmer in a Pioneer Valley Sandy Koufax game Wednesday at Legion Field in Palmer.
Kyle Barnes doubled and drove in a pair of runs for Frontier (8-4-1), while Alber and Matt Como had two hits apiece. Ben Zaranek doubled in the victory, while Rowan Blair and Ben Martino added RBI singles. Alec Kirkendall also had a hit in the win.
CFC Senior Open
Paul Nunez fired a round of 71, leading him to the top spot in the Senior Open Singles competition at Crumpin Fox Club in Bernardston on Wednesday.
Tom Bergeron was next with a 73, while Dave Laravee (76) and Jim Ruschioni (77) finished third and fourth, respectively.
Jordan Haskell had the low net of the event with a 66, followed closely by runner-up Phil Phillips (67). Tim Brandl, Scott Betourney, Dick Barnes, Al Griffin and David Cronin finished in a tie for third.
Elks League
John Cariddi and Stan Maynard snatched control of first place Wednesday night, as the duo has totaled 55 points through 10 weeks to lead the Elks League at the Country Club of Greenfield.
Jim Elwell and Tom Willis are right behind however, trailing in second place with 54 points.
Greg Call captured closest-to-the-pin honors on No. 2, landing his approach 9 feet, 1 inch from the hole.
Timmons League
Jeff Kenney and Eric Bush posted a score of 32, giving the duo low-gross honors at Wednesday night’s Timmons League held at Northfield Golf Course.
After a match of cards, Jim Garanin and Matt Sykes captured low-net honors with a 28, while match medalist was Bush and George Northrup with 37s.
Fred Avery was closest to the pin on No. 6 (4-11), while Garanin was closest on No. 7 (6-8).
EDGE Golf Tournament
The EDGE Basketball Club will hold its annual EDGE Golf Tournament on Sept. 16 at the Northfield Golf Club.
The tournament is a 9 a.m. shotgun start and costs $260 per team.

Franklin County clinic
The 20th annual Franklin County Hoop Clinic sponsored by DRIVE Hoops will take place from July 17 through 21 at Greenfield High School.
The clinic will run daily from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and is open to boys and girls ages 6 through 14. Cost is $150 per participant and includes breakfast and lunch.
The clinic, which will be limited to the first 60 participants, will be run by Hopkins Academy boys’ varsity basketball coach Angelo Thomas and Greenfield High School girls’ varsity basketball coach John Hickey.

Montague Mug Race
The 37th annual Montague Mug Race is scheduled for Aug. 19, with the 5.5-mile road race “blasting” off at 8:30 a.m. from the Village Common.
Pewter Mugs are awarded to top male and female finishers, and coffee mugs will go to top finishers of each division. T-shirts are given to the first 90 runners. The course is well marked with plenty of water stops, and features a few challenging hills with a run along the Connecticut River.
Now in its 13th year, the Mini Mug Race will kick off at 8:35 a.m. This course measures two miles and is a great scenic route around the Old South Cemetery. Both races will finish at the ball field. All runners are entered into drawing for local prizes.
