ERVING — Among the seven items to be discussed during tonight’s Special Town Meeting are measures that would replace the town’s backhoe equipment, pay for new Apple computers at Erving Elementary and update the street lighting.

The warrant includes $28,000 for the Apple computers and a new four-year lease for iPads and Macbook Air laptops, $30,000 for the LED street lighting upgrade and $125,000 for a new backhoe.

The $30,000 for street lighting will be used in conjunction with state money to help replace street lighting around town that will reduce the town’s energy use.

The town’s highway department is recommending the replacement of the 1997 backhoe it currently owns because a cost estimate to replace necessary parts and make repairs would be roughly $70,000 and wouldn’t extend the warranty of the vehicle.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Erving Senior Center at 1 Care Drive. Beyond the financial measures, the town will also vote on accepting Care Drive as a public way. Currently, the Senior Center is the sole facility on the road, but it is the site for the proposed new Erving library and a possible senior living project.

Beyond the financial measures for the night, the meeting will look to set aside money for the general stabilization account, and amend town bylaws to establish new revolving accounts that would bring the town up to compliance with the state’s Municipal Modernization Act.
