Paced by an all-around stellar evening from Kameryn Dearborn, Conte Office Interiors marched on in the Greenfield Girls’ Softball League playoffs Monday night.
Dearborn struck out nine in six innings and added three hits at the plate to send Conte to a 15-6 win over the Diamond Dusters in Ponytail Division action at Murphy Park. The win vaulted Conte into tonight’s game against Pipione’s Sport Shop.
Ainslee Flynn totaled three hits, including a pair of doubles, for Conte, while teammates Caroline Crocker (three hits) and Talia Caloon (hit) also chipped in.
Kelsey Richardson had three hits, including a home run, for Diamond Dusters. Emily Young also had three hits, while Madison Liimatainen and Jenny Currier combined to strike out 10 in the circle.
• In other Ponytail playoff action Monday night, Lillia Kachelmeyer’s whopping 17 strikeouts sent Crocker Communications to a tight 6-5 victory over Descavich Plumbing.
Kachelmeyer also tripled and drove in a run for Crocker, while Anessa Brewer belted a home run as the squad came charging back with five runs in the fifth inning to snag the victory. Mackenzie Paulin singled and drove in a pair, while Kelly Baird, Emma Rose (RBI) and Kylee Wrisley (RBI) singled.
Lauren Ross struck out 11 in the circle for Descavich. Addi Rotkiewicz recorded a sacrifice fly and drove in a pair, while Gianna Disciullo added an RBI.
• Elsewhere, Sophia Rotkiewicz was a perfect 5-for-5 with three RBI as Harper’s Store edged Lundgren Honda, 14-13, in Nippers Division action on Monday.
Ava Worden, Shayleene France and Annalise Newton finished with four hits apiece for Harper’s.
Cayleigh Aldrich and Sara Curtis posted four hits apiece for Lundgren. Ella Tidlund and Emmalyn Nash posted three each.

Chase Zraunig and Reid Hager each had three hits, helping Lundgren Honda to a 12-5 win over Cohn & Company in a Greenfield Minor League AA baseball playoff game Monday night at Lunt Field.
Nico Siano doubled and singled for Lundgren, which received a pair of hits from Rowan Muzzy, Jack Laurie and Wayde Bardwell.
Grayson Thomas had two hits for Cohn & Company. Teammate Nick Prasol added a hit.
• Elsewhere, Jackson Glazier finished a home run shy of the cycle to send Bobby C’s DJ Service through to the AA finals with a 13-6 win Monday over Berkshire Insurance.
Cody Yetter added three hits, including a double, while Gavin Arsenault notched three hits and pitched well for Bobby C’s. Austin Drowski and Sam Bucala each had a hit in the win.
Berkshire was paced by Noah Waterman’s two hits. Hunter Parker, Jaxon Silva, Brody Welcome and Benny Santiago all finished with a hit.
Bobby C’s will meet Lundgren Honda in the AA championship game Wednesday night at Lunt Field.
Mickey Mantle
Sam Bobala pitched six-plus innings, striking out eight and not issuing a walk but visiting Northampton took advantage of four unearned runs to capture a 5-1 win over Mohawk Hilltown Hardwood Flooring in a Pioneer Valley Youth Baseball League Mickey Mantle Baseball game Monday night at Mohawk Trail Regional High School.
Jacob Christi was 2-for-2 with two singles and a pair of walks, while Jordan Grenier drove in the lone run of the night for Mohawk, which is back in action Thursday with a road trip to Westfield at 5:30. Wyatt Bandy-Page added a hit and stole a base.
Sandy Koufax
Tynan Creagh’s monster night at the plate saw the slugger drive in seven runs on the strength of four hits (single, two doubles, triple) to help Frontier Alber Hearing Services to an 11-2 win over Northampton in a Pioneer Valley Youth Baseball League Sandy Koufax game at Headmaster Field in Deerfield Monday.
Matt Como had two hits and drove in a run for Frontier, which also received key offensive contributions from Ben Martino (single, RBI, three runs), Alec Kirkendall (single, RBI), Ben Zaranek (two singles) and Dylan Martin (two singles). Gehrig Brynda struck out four in a complete-game win on the mound.
Montague co-rec
Jake Coburn was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and Kristin Ouellette and Jenna Carme had three hits apiece as Kustom Auto Body edged Hubie’s Tavern, 13-10, in a Montague Co-Rec softball game Monday night.
Spencer Telega smacked a pair of doubles in the win for Kustom Auto Body.
Hubie’s was paced by Ricky Roberts’ three hits, including a home run. Nate Pecor registered a pair of hits, one a homer, while Steve Hawkins also collected a long ball.
• Elsewhere, Dustin Olsen’s grand slam was part of a three-hit day, and he helped St Stanislaus Society to a 13-6 win over Turners Falls Pizza House Monday.
Marshall Sisson was 3-for-4 for St. Stan’s, which received home runs from Ryan Kellogg and Chris Kalinowski.
Jordan Zukowski was 2-for-4 with a home run for the Pizza House, while teammate Katie Kurtyka was 3-for-3.
National Senior Games
It was quite a weekend for Buzz Gagne.
The Concord, N.H., resident and Greenfield High School Class of 1965 alum captured the gold medal in the javelin at the 2017 National Senior Games in Birmingham, Ala., Sunday. Gagne’s throw of 156 feet, 8 inches (47.76 meters) broke the National Senior Games record for the 70-74-year-old age group. The previous mark of 148 feet was set back in 2011.
Deerfield rowing
Big things came from the Deerfield Academy boats at the 2017 U.S. Rowing National Youth Championships over the weekend at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla.
The DA boys’ rowing team won the gold medal in the Men’s Youth 4-plus Event. Last year at the same event, the team finished in fourth position. The winning boat included Gordon Johnson, Freddie Johnson, Dani Michelson, Will Sanford and Henry Lowe.
In their opening time-trial race Friday, the boys’ team finished in third place, earning a spot in the semifinals later that day. In the semis, the squad left nothing to chance and led their semifinal heat start to finish en route to a win that qualified them for the ‘A’ Final. After a Saturday of rest, it was on to the finals, where the Big Green took hold of the final race from start to finish, increasing their lead on the other five boats in the race to finish the 2,000-meter course in a time of 6:24.417.
Additionally, the DA girls’ team won the ‘B’ Final Sunday with a time of 7:15.406. In the opening time trial, the girls finished in third place amongst a field of 18 boats and advanced to the semifinals. In a photo-finish, Deerfield was edged at the finish line in its semifinal heat to finish in fourth place — less than a second out of ‘A’ Final qualification.
The girls took charge of the ‘B’ Final and led the race from start to finish to earn the win and the title of seventh-best Women’s Youth 4-plus boat in the country.
CC of G Sheriff’s Outing
The quartets of Phil Reilley, Tom Bergeron, Patrick Varner and Jack Varner as well as Brodie Conant, Jamie Crocker, Scott Cote and Jason Kelton both combined to shoot a low-gross 58 en route to a first-place tie in the 2017 Sheriff’s Association Outing at Country Club of Greenfield on Monday.
Taking low-net honors was the team of Ed Sabelewski, Billy Luippold, Dennis Depault and Lloyd Grover with a 55, while next was Corey Lovett, AJ Bresciano, Steve Lovett and Irv Sanders with a 57.
The women’s quartet of Lori Grover, Dawn Bete, Michelle Laurie and Nancy Robie combined for a women’s low gross of 76.
