CONWAY — Pumpkin Hollow will transform into a “living history” encampment during the town’s anniversary weekend.
“It’s a timeline event, recreating vignettes from the history of the town,” said Michelle Held, an experienced reenactor who helped with organization efforts. The event will historically represent Conway residents from the “first settlers of the French and Indian War era,” to soldiers who fought in the Revolutionary and Civil wars.
The encampment, held Saturday and Sunday, June 17 and 18, starting at 9 a.m., will feature roughly 20 tents, more than 30 re-enactors and three or four horses from the Second Continental Light Dragoons, 3rd New Hampshire Regiment, and Hinsdale’s Garrison Company.
“There will be cooking demonstrations, woodworking and printmaking, music, horsemanship, firing demonstrations, historical information about the original center of Conway and the building lots around Pumpkin Hollow,” she continued.
“I think it’s going to turn out to be a really nice weekend. The Hollow is the geographic and historic center of the town,” said event organizer Marge Held.
Held noted there will be a raffle items for sale, including historic photographs. Food and snacks will be available in the Hollow from Diemand Farm and Snow’s Ice Cream, which started in Pumpkin Hollow.
