DEERFIELD — Sections of Interstate 91 southbound will be diverted to one lane today as the state Department of Transportation workers remove pavement in preparation for a resurfacing project.

Around 9:30 a.m. work crews could be seen working on the breakdown lane not far from the Deerfield River.

A press statement about the project noted that “there will be temporary, alternating lane closures … in Deerfield and Northampton to allow MassDOT crews and contractors to safely and effectively conduct milling operations as part of the resurfacing project on I-91.”

The work is expected to continue Monday until 5 p.m.

“MassDOT encourages travelers to be mindful of possible delays, allow extra time to reach their destinations, and devote their full attention to the roadway ahead when traveling through these work zones,” the statement notes.
