GREENFIELD — One man was transported to the hospital and another was arrested after a stabbing on Main Street during a fight Tuesday, according to Greenfield police.

In a Facebook post, the Greenfield Post Department wrote that officers were dispatched to the area of Rite Aid at 5:20 p.m. for a report of a fight between two men. Upon arrival, Officer Cody Guilbault located one of the men, who was bleeding from the upper buttocks and back. Guilbault realized the man’s injuries were due to a puncture wound from a knife, and called for assistance, according to the post.

Officers Corey Greene, Michael McDowell and Jay Butynski arrived to secure the scene and search for the second party, who was located behind the former Cumberland Farms on Main Street by McDowell. The suspected knife was located nearby, the police department wrote.

Timothy Gurley, 32, who is homeless and known to live in the Greenfield area, was placed under arrest for multiple warrants and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and carrying a dangerous weapon (automatic knife). The victim was transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center by MedCare Ambulance for treatment of apparent minor wounds, according to the post.

Gurley was held without bail and transported to the Franklin County Jail, where he will be held until his arraignment.
