Wildflowers at Graves Farm will be held Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon at the farm on Adams Road in Williamsburg. The instructor is botanist Connie Parks. The event is for adults. Cost is $6 for members and $8 for nonmembers. Walk the loop trail at Graves Farm in search of wildflowers. In the sanctuary’s rich forest and wetlands, we will look for plants, including wild strawberry, fringed milkwort, pussytoes and yellow blue bead lily. Wildflowers at High Ledges on Wednesday, May 24, from 9 a.m. to noon. At the High Ledges Wildlife Sanctuary. Turn onto Little Mohawk Road from Route 2 in Shelburne. Spend the morning at beautiful sanctuary. We expect to see bluets, black raspberry, wild red raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, black huckleberry, pink azalea, red columbine and black snakeroot, among many others. The “Original” Northeastern Primitive Rendezvous
On Sunday, May 28, from 1 to 4 p.m., visit the Original Northeastern Primitive Rendezvous at Bennett Meadow Wildlife Management Area on Rt. 10 in Northfield. Smell food cooking on the camp fire, hear muskets firing in the distance, see period tents, clothing and tools, and get a glimpse of how life was lived long ago. It’s a temporary historic encampment. Park your car and walk through a time warp to observe people recreating the period of the 1750s through the 1840s. Reproductions of period items will be sold by shopkeepers, so you can bring a piece of history home with you. The event is free and open to all ages.
Wild Foods Forage and Feast on Saturday, May 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 155 Hemenway Road in Leverett. Join Her Wild Roots for a fun morning as we explore forest and field and learn about the bounty in our back yard. We will harvest and spend time in the kitchen preparing a scrumptious lunch. Then, we’ll sit with each other and enjoys the fruits of our labors. You’ll go home with new knowledge, wild food recipes and a full stomach. The cost is $50.
There will be a wildflower walk in the Catamount Hills sponsored by the Catamount Hill Association and the Deerfield River Watershed Association on Saturday, May 20, at 10:30 a.m. It will be an easy loop hike, with some rough footing, of approximately two miles from the top of East Catamount Hill Road. Hikers should bring lunch, unscented bug dope, water and extra socks. To reach the trailhead, from Route 112 in Griswoldville take Adamsville Road for a mile and a half to Lively Road on the left, then quickly turn left again onto East Catamount Road.
