ORANGE — Ralph C. Mahar Regional School’s Junior Engineering Teams (JETS) were challenged to a three-part statewide competition with a theme of “Engineering the Environment” and have mounted a crowdfunding campaign.

The teams wrote an essay on renewable energy, built a design challenge, and answered a multiple-choice test. The seventh/eighth-grade middle school team won and the 11th/12th-grade high school team finished second in the state for their grade categories, qualifying both teams to compete at the national level in Orlando, Fla., in late June.

The middle school team is unable to send enough students to compete, but the eight members of the 11th/12th-grade team are eager to attend Nationals. A YouCaring account has been set up to help defray the expenses of this opportunity.
