ORANGE — A search Friday morning for a missing 2-year-old boy from Orange was called off shortly before noon when the child was found safe.
Orange Police Sgt. James Sullivan said his department called the Orange Fire Department for assistance at roughly 10:45 a.m. and the child was located at roughly 11:55 a.m.
“We’re all happy that that outcome is what happened,” he said, adding that he could not divulge where or how the boy was found.
Members of the Northfield Dive/Rescue Team were seen on inflatable motor boats coming ashore at the boat launch spot on East River Street at noon.
Sullivan said the Athol Fire Department, Athol Police Department, Petersham Police, Orange Police K9 Orka and the Athol State Police also assisted. He also thanked civilians who offered to help.
The Orange Police Department’s announcement on Facebook about a missing child was shared hundreds of times before the status was edited to inform people the child was found safe. Several people asked the department to post a picture of the child so they knew what he looks like.
