ROWE — Will Rowe rejoin the Mohawk Trail Regional School District, after a 35-year hiatus, or vote to stay “single,” and keep tuitioning its seventh- through 12th-grade students to the Mohawk Trail Regional High School?

Townspeople will have their say in the annual town meeting on Monday, May 8, at the Rowe Elementary School, beginning at 7 p.m.

Rowe was to have voted on the issue last month, but moved it to the annual town meeting, when more residents have a voice in the decision. Joining Mohawk as a member town would give Rowe two votes on the School Committee for any secondary education issues at the Mohawk school. The Rowe Elementary School would continue to belong to the Northern Berkshire School Union.

If Rowe joins Mohawk, its two Mohawk School Committee members would have a vote on the school board, which would be expanded to 18 members.

Proposed costs for the town are: general government, $352,468; highway and public works, $579,496; public safety, $133,853; health and sanitation, $134,688; public schools, $1.65 million; town library, $68,590; park, $109,669; Gracy House, $2,500; Old Home Day, $7,000.

Other cost requests on the warrant are $15,000 to repair and replace damaged windows at the town library; $5,100 to replace park headquarters siding; $1,500 to repair the ramp for the transfer station compactor.
