WENDELL — Daniel Keller’s tenure on the Wendell Board of Selectmen will continue, as the longtime resident won re-election to his seat in Monday’s election.
Keller defeated challenger Raymond DiDonato, 183 to 132, in this year’s lone contested race.
“My initial reaction is, I’m happy to see a good number of people feel that I’m doing an OK job,” he said Tuesday afternoon, referring to the election as partially a “referendum about my performance and it feels gratifying.”
During his campaign, Keller said he wants to focus on making sure the town brings high-speed internet connections to every home in Wendell.
“But at the same time, I’m also concerned about the cost and I want to make sure all the options for getting this service to the homes are looked at carefully, including the ones where the town doesn’t pay any money,” he said.
Keller previously explained there is a proposal from private corporation Matrix Design Group to build and partially finance a network, with the rest of the costs covered by Wendell’s share of Massachusetts Broadband Institute money. He also said the internet is vital for small-town residents who cannot leave their homes but must communicate with a medical professional.
Keller also thanked DiDonato for a civil and respectful campaign.
The Board of Selectmen’s next meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. today.
According to Town Clerk Gretchen Smith, 319 people — or 44 percent of the Wendell’s registered voters, showed up to the polls Monday.
The rest of the election results are as follow: Board of Assessors: Chris Prunier Wings; town clerk: Gretchen C. Smith; tax collector: Penny Delorey; treasurer: Carolyn U. Manley; Board of Health: Judith Bailey; Planning Board (five years): Heather E. Reed; library trustee: Judith N. Putnam and Sylvia A. Wetherby.
