BERNARDSTON — A 70-year-old man injured his leg and was transported to the hospital following an accident at the intersection of Route 10 and Turners Falls Road Tuesday.

Police said that John Hensel of Winchester, N.H. was traveling south on Route 10 when he arrived to the intersection at Turners Falls Road. A car stopped in front of him was signaling to turn left. Hensel then swerved left, out of the way of the stopped car, and into the guardrail.

Hensel was able to walk at the scene of the accident, but was transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center, Bernardston Police Chief James Palmeri said.

The Fire Department had to cut off the guardrail from the vehicle, the police chief said.

“Just pay attention to what’s going on around you. This is the second one in the last couple weeks,” Palmeri said, noting another accident that happened nearby last month. “Keep an eye open for brake lights and directions.”
