A monster day from Gavin Rubio helped guide Montague Elks Lodge to a 6-1 victory over Turners Falls Athletic Club in a Newt Guilbault Community Baseball League game Friday night.
Rubio struck out three batters on the mound, and also mashed at the dish, with an inside the park home run, a triple and a double to go along with four RBI. Hugh Cyhowski struck out six and added three hits and an RBI for the Elks, while Caleb Thomas, Derek Helms and Austin Sumner contributed singles.
Alex Sulda had a hit and combined with Ryan Demers for a strong outing on the mound in the loss.
• In other action, Greenfield Savings Bank rode the offensive production of Jake Lavin to capture a 13-8 win over St. Kazimierz Society.
Lavin had two hits — a double and a home run — to pace GSB, which also received a triple from Mason Lehtomaki, and singles from Ollie Postera and Matthew Marchefka.
St. Kaz standout Noah Ausikaitis had four hits, including a pair of doubles, while teammate Kainen Stevens added a double.
Tri-County League
Behind the pitching tandem of Taylor Ruder and Sophia Holden, the Northfield Cougars picked up an 8-1 victory over the Hinsdale Phillies in a Tri-County Softball League game Friday in Hinsdale.
Ruder and Holden combined for 13 strikeouts on the night, with Holden striking out nine in her three innings of work.
Ruder’s two hits paced the offense, while Holden, Jaida Barry, Kathie Fuller and Alana Witherell all contributed hits for the Cougars.
Hinsdale’s Sarah Miller and Abby Nardolillo combined for 13 strikeouts, while Ari Lee added a hit to pace the Phillies’ offense.
Deerfield at Penn Relays
The Deerfield Academy girls’ track & field team was well-represented at the Penn Relays on Thursday. The quartet of Helen Downes (1:08.99), Felicia Renelus (1:02.84), Victoria Patterson (1:03.57), Lily Louis (1:01.93) combined to finish fourth in the 4×400 relay in the high school prep independent schools division with a combined time of 4:17.32.
St. Catherine’s of Virginia won the event, taking first with a record-breaking time of 3:55.66.
