Thanks to the pitching tandem of Hugh Cyhowski and Gavin Rubio, the Montague Elks Lodge picked up a 9-2 win over St. Kazimierz Society in a Newt Guilbault Community League baseball game Thursday night.
Rubio posted 11 strikeouts in the win and also tripled at the plate, while Cyhowski struck out five and added a single. Austin Sumner singled and doubled in the win, Kaleb Thomas doubled, and Derek Helms singled.
Levin Prondecki had a triple in the loss, while Noah Ausikaitis doubled, and Kainen Stevens singled.
Frontier Cal Ripken
Gus Lagoy tossed three-plus innings of action, striking out five, to lift New England Greenscape to an 8-4 win over the Polish American Citizens Club in a Frontier Cal Ripken League game on Thursday.
Josh Gingras walked three times to help New England Greenscape offensively, while Thomas Unkles walked and scored for the Polish American Club.

Lilly Ross struck out eight batters, leading Descavich Plumbing to a 10-5 win over Camelot Carpet in a Greenfield Girls Softball League game Thursday night at Murphy Park.
Maya Morey went 1-for-2 to pace Descavich, while Gianna Disciullo played solid defense.
Camelot’s Neni Santiago went 2-for-3 with an RBI and added five strikeouts in the pitching circle, while Lauren Wade added a hit and two RBI. Sariya Noeun was 2-for-3 on the night.
• In other action, Margarette Howland went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and also struck out eight in the circle to earn the win as Pipione’s Sport Shop edged Franklin Orthopedic, 11-10, on Thursday.
Audrianna Bassett had a hit and an RBI for Pipione’s, while Haylee Tuttle drove in a pair of runs in the win.
Kate Trudeau was a perfect 3-for-3 for Orthopedics, while Breann Smith (hit, two RBI) and Jillian Appanel (hit) also contributed. Rachel Dodge struck out six in the pitching circle while Appanel tossed in three strikeouts.
Tennis
Deerfield Academy defeated Northfield Mount Hermon School, 4-0, in a boys’ prep tennis match Thursday in Gill.
Turners Suburban tryouts
Turners Falls 14-and-under Suburban League softball tryouts will be held May 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Turners Falls High School.
League play begins June 20. Games are played on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
One parent or guardian must be present after tryouts for a quick overview of the summer league. A player is eligible if she doesn’t turn 15 before Jan. 1.

Rec league upcoming
The Greenfield Recreation Tennis League will begin with a league mixer on May 14 at 6 p.m. at the Beacon Courts.
The league, which will be played on the clay courts, is designed for participants ages 16 and older, and the cost is $25 for Greenfield residents and $30 for non-residents. One singles match per week will be played with make-up weeks. Players will set their own times to play after receiving the schedule, with divisions set up by playing ability. There will be two or three divisions depending on how many players join.

Franklin County clinic
Registrations are now being accepted for the Franklin County Field Hockey Clinic, which will take place July 10 through 14 at Greenfield High School.
The clinic is run by GHS coach Erin Thayer and Frontier Regional School coach Missy Mahar as well as high school players from both schools. It is open to students entering grades third through seventh.
The clinic runs each day from 9 a.m. until noon and costs $175. Players can purchase an equipment package (which includes stick, ball, mouth guard and shin guard) for an additional $56.
The clinic will focus on stretching and footwork drills, fundamental skills, and offensive and defensive skills as well as small games and 7 vs. 7 scrimmages.
