SOUTH DEERFIELD — A two-car crash sent one person to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Greenfield and Conway roads, police said.

A blue Toyota SUV turned left in front of a beige Toyota Prius, not yielding to the blinking yellow turn light, leading to the crash, according to police.

“Accidents do happen, but remember to take an extra look and drive safely out there,” Deerfield Police officer Adam Sokoloski said.

The two people in the SUV, along with a dog aboard, were not injured, but the driver of the Prius was seriously injured. The woman in the car was transported to Baystate Springfield to be sent to the trauma center there since Baystate Franklin does not have one.

“The paramedics made the decision based on their experience to bring someone to the trauma center so that they could receive the best care possible,” Sokoloski said.

The Deerfield police officer stressed the importance of seatbelts in this crash.

“If she was not buckled up, the result could have been much worse,” Sokoloski said.
