Turners Falls 14-and-under Suburban League softball tryouts will be held May 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Turners Falls High School.
League play begins June 20. Games are played on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
One parent or guardian must be present after tryouts for a quick overview of the summer league. A player is eligible if she doesn’t turn 15 before Jan. 1.

Rec league upcoming
The Greenfield Recreation Tennis League will begin with a league mixer on May 14 at 6 p.m. at the Beacon Courts.
The league, which will be played on the clay courts, is designed for participants ages 16 and older, and the cost is $25 for Greenfield residents and $30 for non-residents. One singles match per week will be played with make-up weeks. Players will set their own times to play after receiving the schedule, with divisions set up by playing ability. There will be two or three divisions depending on how many players join.

Booska Flooring rolls
Behind an outstanding start from Brady Booska on the mound, Booska’s Flooring captured a 12-0 victory over Turners Falls Athletic Club in a Newt Guilbault Community League baseball game played Monday night and reported late.
Booska struck out nine and didn’t allow a hit in three innings to pick up the victory. Teammates Corbin Leh (two hits, three runs scored) and Eric Martineau (hit, RBI) aided the offense on the evening.
For Turners Falls Athletic Club, the tandem of Ryan Demers and Matt Field combined to strike out 10 batters.
Post 81 tryouts
The Greenfield Post 81 American Legion Baseball program will hold tryouts for its Senior and Junior Division teams on several upcoming days at Veterans Memorial Field in Greenfield.
Tryouts will take place on May 6, 7 and 13. Senior Division players (ages 19 and under as of Dec. 31, 2017) will meet at 1 p.m. each day, while Junior Division players (ages 17 and under as of Dec. 31, 2017) will meet at 3 p.m. All players will meet at 3 p.m. on May 13 (no 1 p.m. tryouts) and the teams will be selected and players notified that evening.
Players from all Franklin County schools are eligible to try out and should bring glove, cleats and birth certificate. Players from previous a Post 81 roster must attend tryouts to be eligible and players should make as many tryouts as possible.

Hole-in-one
It was quite a Tuesday for Sue Sigda.
The Greenfield resident and Country Club of Greenfield member recorded a hole-in-one at Rio Pinar Golf Club in Orlando, Fla. Sigda’s ace came on the par 3, 12th hole that measured in at 100 yards. She used a 9-wood to achieve the feat, which was witnessed by Dick Barber, Tom Bergeron and Rick Sigda.
Frontier golf outing
The Frontier Regional School golf team will be hosting its annual golf outing on May 26 at Cherry Hill Golf Course in Amherst.

Deerfield Rotary benefit
The inaugural Putt and Pour Tournament to benefit the Deerfield Valley Rotary Club will be played on June 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Mount Snow Golf Club in West Dover, Vt.
The 18-hole team scramble will feature four-person teams. Cost is $75 per person and includes entry into the tournament and lunch. Lunch for non-participants is $25. To register over the phone, call 802-423-7535 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Junior Golf League back
For the second season, Country Club of Greenfield is offering PGA Junior League Golf to boys and girls age 13 of all abilities, and registration is now open. Parents can visit PGAJLG.com to learn more. Registration will close May 1.
Teams play in a two-person scramble format for competition, reinforcing the team concept and allowing captains to sub players to ensure everyone on the team can participate. Parents are encouraged to play an active role as volunteers, spectators or coaches, making it a fun activity for the whole family.
“We are thrilled to once again host PGA Junior League Golf here at CC of Greenfield ” said Pro Kevin Piecuch. “PGA Jr. League Golf has proven to be a fantastic opportunity for kids of all skill levels to learn and enjoy the game as a team. Cost is $150 and includes a team jersey, bag tag, T-shirt, six practices and six matches. Boys and girls of all abilities, ages 7 through 13, are invited to register. No prior golf experience is necessary to participate.

Tech trivia night
The Franklin County Technical School athletic department is holding a Trivia Night fundraiser on May 12 at 7 p.m. at St. Kazimierz Society in Turners Falls.
Teams can consist of up to eight people with a $10 entry fee per person. There will be a range of cash and bar prizes.

GHS Football raffle
The Greenfield High School football team will hold a Meat Raffle on May 13 at 7 p.m. at the Greenfield Elks Lodge.
The raffle features $800 worth of meat and $200 worth of seafood and consists of ribs, steaks, hams, bacon, kielbasa, hamburger, lobsters, scallops and shrimp.
The way the raffle works is that a table with approximately 12 to 14 items will be unveiled and raffle tickets will be sold. Tickets will be drawn and the person with the winning ticket will choose an item off the table. Tickets will continue to be drawn until the table is cleared. At that point, another table will be unveiled containing another 12 to 14 items and tickets will be sold again. There figures to be four tables worth of meat that night.
Tickets cost $1 for one, $2 for three, $5 for seven and $10 for 15. The football team has teamed up with Foster’s Supermarket, Richardson’s and Sigda’s Flowers. There will also be candy prizes on hand.
