Library plans Earth Day event Tuesday

NEW SALEM — The Friends of the New Salem Public Library has planned a Earth Day celebration for area children at the New Salem Public Library from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on April 25.

All activities will be centered around Dr. Seuss’ book, “The Lorax,” which highlights the plight of the environment and the importance of caring for nature.

Swift River School students may take the bus directly to the library if they provide a note from home to the school. Children in second grade and younger must be accompanied by an adult. For additional information, contact 978-544-891

Athol Hospital set to break ground Wednesday

ATHOL — An emergency department and medical office building groundbreaking ceremony and Fulfilling Our Promise Campaign kick-off is planned for 10 to 11:30 a.m. on the front lawn at Athol Hospital on Wednesday, April 26.

The new emergency department will double the capacity of the current space, and will include eight dedicated acute care rooms and six private behavioral health rooms.
