GREENFIELD — A Greenfield man has been charged with breaking into two cars after leading police on a foot chase.
Timothy Bourbeau, 48, of Washington Street, was charged with two counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle at night with intent to commit a felony, two counts of larceny of a motor vehicle, and possession of burglarious tools, according to the police.
Officers were dispatched to the Conway Street area Friday night for a report of a breaking and entering into a motor vehicle that had just been interrupted by the vehicle’s owner, according to a post of the department’s Facebook page. It was reported that the owner of the vehicle had just come home and was in the process of unloading his groceries when he noticed a male party was inside his vehicle rummaging through the interior. The suspect stated it was a friend’s car and then left the area.
Within minutes, police were in the area and say they found Bourbeau, who matched the description the reporting party had given, standing next to the front door of another vehicle near the intersection of Columbus and Grove streets. The officer attempted to talk to him, but the subject ran, tried to hide and refused to stop for police when requested. The officer chased him and was able to catch up with him on Grove Street.
Officers spoke to the owner of the vehicle that the subject was standing next to and found that there was probable cause to believe that he broke into that vehicle as well. The officers searched the spot where he attempted to hide and found items believed to belong to the owners of the vehicle.
