BERNARDSTON — The United Church of Bernardston is hosting its second Saturday roast beef supper on Saturday, April 8, with seatings at 5 and 6:15 p.m.

LEYDEN — The Leyden United Methodist Church is holding an apple pie and carrot cake sale at Town Hall on Saturday, April 8, from 1 to 4 p.m. and then at the church on Sunday, April 9, from 10 to 11 a.m.
Local delivery is available, as well as special orders such as sugar-free varieties. Both carrot cakes and apple pies are $12 each.
After Sunday, residents can still purchase frozen items.

BERNARDSTON — Kathleen O’Rourke, author of “What I’ve Seen: Animal, Nature and Ranger Tales,” will be visiting Cushman Library on Sunday, April 9, at 4 p.m. to present on her book.
O’Rourke will share stories of life as a park ranger, along with the wildlife and people she met along the way.
Copies of O’Rourke’s book will be available for purchase and she will be signing copies. Refreshments will also be available.
WARWICK — A poetry workshop with bg Thurston will be held Tuesday, April 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Warwick Free Public Library.
According to Thurston’s website, she has taught poetry through a variety of continuing education programs including Lasell Village in Newton and Newton Lifetime Learning. Her work — which tends to focus on nature as an illumination of human thought and emotion — has appeared in Tar River Poetry, The Comstock Review, The Worcester Review and The Christian Science Monitor.
WARWICK — Warwick Community School is hosting a performance of “Sammy and the Grand Buffet,” a solo physical comedy performance by Jonathan Mirin, on Wednesday, April 12, at 6 p.m.
The 45-minute show follows the story of Sammy, an American in Paris, who awakens to a phone call from his boss asking him to start preparing the restaurant for the evening’s Grand Buffet. But the task turns out to be more difficult than it sounds.
The performance is inspired by Charlie Chaplin, New Vaudeville and Mirin’s own experiences living and working abroad.
Stretching class set for Wednesday
LEYDEN — The Council on Aging is presenting an “E-Centric Stretching” class with Linda Romano upstairs in Town Hall on Wednesday, April 12, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
The class will focus on aspects of aging and stretching exercises to help keep the body flexible.

NORTHFIELD — Dickinson Memorial Library is hosting a presentation by local author Anastacia Marx de Salcedo about her 2015 book “Combat-Ready Kitchen: How the U.S. Military Shapes the Way You Eat” on Friday, April 14, at 6:30 p.m.
In her book, Marx de Salcedo explores the secret military history of different foods purchased at the supermarket. The presentation includes a Q&A session, book signing and a table of show-and-tell food.
The event is funded by the Northfield Cultural Council.
