SHELBURNE — After 21 years in office, Selectboard Chairman Joseph Judd has left big shoes to fill; maybe that’s why no one filed nomination papers to take his place on July 1.
A three-year Selectboard term will be blank on the May 15 annual town election ballot, although write-in candidates may come forward to run over the next several weeks.
Wednesday, April 12, is the last day to register to vote in time for the annual election. Special registration hours that day are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
Also, there is no candidate on the ballot for a five-year term on the town’s Recreation Committee. This week, however, the Selectboard appointed physician Stefan Topolski to the Recreation Committee, to fill the vacancy at least until the annual election. But if Topolski would like to stay on the board after June, he would have to run as a write-in candidate, now that the deadline for filing nomination papers has past.
Thomas Johnson of Bridge Street is running for the three-year unexpired term on the Planning Board, that was vacated by George Dole.
Incumbents running for re-election for one-year terms are: Town Clerk Joseph J. Judd, Tree Warden James T. Richardson, and Moderator Sylvia M. Smith.
Seeking re-election to three-year terms are Library Trustees Sherry Taylor and Debra Washer, and Planning Board Chairman John Wheeler.
Jason Cusimano, who was appointed to the Mohawk Trail Regional School Committee, is running for his first three-year term. Jeremy McGeorge is running for a two-year unexpired term that is being vacated by incumbent member John Payne.
