HAWLEY — Selectboard Chairman John Sears is not seeking re-election to another term in office and says the single candidate on the ballot, former police chief Robert Root, “is devoted to the town” and “will do a good job of representing its citizens.”
Sears did not file nomination papers, and said he is stepping down from the board to complete writing a book that he has been working on for several years.
An article in Friday’s Recorder incorrectly reported that Sears was running.
“I have been proud to serve my town as selectman,” Sears said, in an email over the weekend. “I am thankful to the people of Hawley for their support during my tenure and to all the town’s employees who do such good work in keeping the town running smoothly.”
