Woodcocks at Twilight: as the sun begins to set, the stage is set for the woodcock to perform its courtship flight. An unusual bird, also known as the Timberdoodle, performs an airborne ritual accompanied by a variety of unique sounds. On April 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., join the center for its spring tradition. The program will begin with an indoor introduction followed by a twilight walk to experience the courtship flight of the woodcock. Dress warmly, wear boots and dark clothes, bring a blanket to sit on, and bring binoculars, if possible. Be prepared to sit quietly outdoors for 30 minutes. Free and open to the public. Life in a Pond: Earth Day Celebration at Northfield Mountain Recreation and Environmental Center. Its pond is teeming with intriguing insects, tadpoles, salamanders and more. Join the center on April 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. on a family adventure exploring life in a pond. Using nets, magnifiers, field guides and games you will immerse yourself (not literally) in the world of a pond. It’s a rich community of creatures. The center’s staff will share ideas on how we can all be better stewards of life on earth and in a pond. Saturday Morning Bird Walk with George Regmund. Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary, 127 Combs Road., Easthampton will offer an adult walk on April 22 from 7 to 9 a.m. The cost is $5. Join field biologist George Regmund for one or more early morning bird walks during spring migration. Each walk will take place at a different location within Arcadia’s more than 700 acres.
