I’d like to address the article that appeared in The Recorder regarding Mr. Ed Grinnell and his flying of the American flag upside down, apparently in some sort of childish tantrum because Hillary Clinton did not win the election.
I hope Mr. Grinnell does not seriously believe that only one person did not understand what he is doing. Trust me sir, there are far more. I find this to be appalling, extremely disrespectful to the country, to the flag, to those who have fought for this country, and most especially to those who have died for this country. I am a veteran of the United States military. I served this country to help keep it free, to help the citizens enjoy the many freedoms we have here, more than most places in the world ever have or ever will. I’m here to tell you that what you are doing is wrong!
It is hateful, disrespectful, disgraceful, mean spirited and very hurtful to those of us who have served in the military. I must state here, for the record, I do not like Donald Trump. I do not think he is the right choice for America. He seems to be a bit of a bully, and perhaps even a tyrant. But I also believe that Hillary Clinton is equally unfit for the office. It saddens me that the best we as a nation could come up with was either of these two.
Despite all this, to show such deep disrespect for our flag accomplishes nothing. You may have had people in town who have congratulated you, but I promise you, there are a multitude more people out here who completely disagree with you.
I admire the work you do on behalf of disabled animals. I think it is wonderful. I also appreciate the fact that you offer discounts to veterans for your carts. I do not appreciate what you are doing to the flag, and I do hope you will reconsider your actions.
