Early Spring at Barton Cove: Celebrate the beginning of spring on March 25 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Join naturalist Kim Noyes on this two-mile leisurely hike. We’ll observe the first wildflower of spring, search for nesting eagles and explore the rich geological, natural and cultural history of Barton Cove. Meet at the picnic area in the Barton Cove day-use area at 62 Mohawk Trail/Route 2, Gill. Wear sturdy shoes or boots, dress in layers and bring binoculars, if possible. “The Big Night”: Enjoy a family evening at Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary in Easthampton on Saturday, April 1, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Guided tours will leave the nature center every 15 minutes to travel a 45-minute forest trail where participants will meet costumed characters from spotted salamanders to fairy shrimp. Learn about the lives of these animals through short skits. Games, slide presentations, and live animals will also be part of the program. Members $8, nonmembers $10. ‘’’: Green Living’ lecture: Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts’ (MCLA) Green Living Series will continue on Thursday, March 23, with “From House Sparrows to Mute Swans: The Invasive Birds of Massachusetts.” This presentation will be given by Andrew Vitz, the state ornithologist for the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife.
