DEERFIELD — The recent discovery of a 270-page ledger kept by Hartford cabinetmaker Lemuel Adams and his associate Samuel Kneeland has shed light on regional cabinet makers.
According to a news statement from Historic Deerfield, “the ledger provides unique insights into the relationship of Adams and Kneeland with competitors in the Connecticut River Valley, like cabinetmakers Aaron Chapin, Julius Barnard, and John I. Wells, as well as clockmakers Daniel Bumap and Timothy Cheney.”
The manuscript was discovered at the University of Miami by Kevin G. Ferrigno.
“Historic Deerfield Associate Curator Christine Ritok and private researcher Ferrigno are spearheading a long-term study of the interrelationships,” the statement notes.
CONWAY — Sen. Adam Hinds will host a roundtable discussion tackling challenges faced by small towns and rural communities later this month.
The event will be held Tuesday, March 28, from 9 to 10 a.m. in the town hall. Other state government officials will also be in attendance.
An announcement about the event on the town’s website notes that discussion will cover, as related to small towns and rural communities, “unique opportunities for growth; infrastructure needs such as broadband and public transportation; special needs of school districts; successes and local innovations in Western Mass.”
The event is open to the public and press. Beforehand, people interested in the event are encouraged to use #WestMAConvos to ask questions.
After, and throughout the day on March 28, other public conversations and tours will be held throughout the Pioneer Vally, including at Barnes Air National Guard Base, UMass Amherst’s Springfield Campus, and the future site of MGM Springfield. The day’s event will culminate in a town hall discussion at UMass Amherst.
