NORTHAMPTON — RSVP, a volunteer organization that connects senior citizens with volunteer opportunities in Hampshire and Franklin counties, received $142,000 in federal funding, according to a press release from the organization.

Through a network of volunteers, the organization provides services to senior citizens throughout the two counties. The federal funding is matched by $90,000 in local funding from the Hampshire County Council of Governments. The organization connects volunteers age 55 and older with volunteer opportunities throughout the counties. About 600 volunteers worked over 100,000 hours through the organization at 50 social service agencies.

Volunteers can do a wide array of different jobs, like working at local food banks, home-delivering meals or volunteering at local hospitals. “I’m thrilled to see RSVP of Hampshire and Franklin Counties receive this important federal funding,” said Congressman Jim McGovern in a release.
