ORANGE — Meghan Rotti was selected by the Orange elementary schools as a 2017 Pioneer Valley Excellence in Teaching Award winner.
Rotti was selected by her peers for the award. She will be honored at a banquet for Excellence in Teaching Award Winners at The Log Cabin in Holyoke on April 27. The banquet program will feature award presentations, a message about a local education project, and a teacher appreciation video starring Pioneer Valley students.
ORANGE — The town’s ad hoc energy committee recently awarded an Energy Saver Award to Dexter Park School for making significant savings in heating oil use.
Dexter Park heating oil use peaked in Fiscal Year 2012 and, since then, school department personnel have steadily decreased it. By Fiscal Year 2016, heating oil consumption at Dexter Park School had been reduced by more than one-third from FY2012 levels.
NEW SALEM — The third and final “Reading Aloud for Grownups” program of the 2017 season for the Friends of the New Salem Public Library will be held at 7 p.m. on March 8 at the library.
Wine, coffee, tea, cheese and desserts will be offered during the program. This event is free and requires no advanced registration, though donations are accepted and appreciated.

ATHOL — The North Quabbin Chamber & Visitors Bureau, along with the Athol Fire Department, will be coordinate this year’s River Rat Parade on April 8.
The parade is slated to begin at 9 a.m. and steps off immediately following the start of the Big Cheese 5K foot race. Anyone planning on marching in the parade is asked to sign up with the Chamber as soon as possible. Participants can sign up using the preferred method by visiting northquabbinchamber.com and clicking the registration button.
