Wednesday was a big afternoon on the slopes for some local alpine ski teams, as a bluebird day saw Northfield-Mount Hermon School capture the top spot in both boys’ and girls’ action in the final race of the Mount Institute Ski League season hosted by Eaglebrook School in Deerfield
NMH took the top spot in the girls’ race with 239 points, holding off locals Deerfield Academy (second place, 208 points), Mohawk Trail Regional High School (third, 203) and the NHM B Team (sixth, 32). The Hoggers also won the boys’ race with 243 points, holding off Eaglebrook (232, second), Deerfield (218, fourth), NMH B (161, fifth), Mohawk (32, seventh) and Deerfield B (27, eighth).
Deerfield’s Valerie Hetherington won the girls’ slalom race, crossing the line first overall with a time of 44.85 seconds. NMH’s Shannon Duffy was second overall in 46.82 seconds, with teammates Heidi Leeds (5th, 48.75) and Natalia Dorogi (6th, 49.16) not far behind. Mohawk’s Ashley LaCross nabbed seventh position overall in 49.25 seconds.
DA’s Griffin Sarachek (42.20) and Sevrin Sarachek (42.72) were second and third, with Eaglebrook’s Daniel Cho fourth overall (44.43). JP Patton of Deerfield (fifth, 44.97), Isaach Foster of NMH (sixth, 45.09), Nate Hazen of Eaglebrook (eighth, 46.01) and Lane Henry of NMH (10th, 46.86) rounded out the top 10 local finishers.
NMH capped off the regular-season title on the girls’ side with the win, while the DA boys’ team was the season champion on the other side.
Hetherington was the individual season champion in the girls’ race, while Williston-Northampton School’s Devin DeVerry was the boys’ victor.
Eaglebrook School Camp
Eaglebrook School in Deerfield will hold its co-ed, family-oriented Eaglebrook Soccer Camp July 31-Aug. 4 for children aged 6-16. For more information, contact Alex Edwards at aedwards@eaglebrook.org.
Newt registrations
The Newt Guilbault Community League has added extended registration periods.
Registrations will take place tonight from 5 to 7 at St. Kazimierz Society in Turners Falls. The league will also hold sign-ups on Sunday from 10 a.m. until noon at the Turners Falls Police Station, and again on March 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the police station.
The league is open to players ages 6 to 12 as of May 1. Cost is $75 per player, with a reduced rate for multiple children. All new players must bring a copy of their birth certificate. New this season, the league will be sizing players for their uniforms at registrations, so parents should bring any players with them. There will also be gently used equipment at sign-ups if any child is in need of any equipment.

Indoor Mini Tournament
The Winston Prouty Center for Child and Family Development is hosting its 3rd Annual Indoor Mini-Golf Tournament for grownups and families on March 4 and March 5 at Vermont Hall on the former Austine School Campus in Brattleboro. The two-day “FUN-raiser” is open to the public.
Saturday’s tournament for adults is a black-tie optional evening that will feature light dinner fare, music, raffles and a cash bar. The tournament will be from 6 to 9 p.m. and tickets are $25 per person.
Sunday’s family fun day will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost is $5 per person, or only $12 for a foursome if you bring your Saturday night scorecard.
FC Tech tourney
The eighth-annual Franklin County Technical School Dodgeball Tournament will be held March 3 beginning at 6 p.m.
Teams of five will compete in double-elimination matches to be held at the school. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top two teams.
Teams must register by March 1 to be eligible to play. There is a $30 registration fee per team, which is due at the time of registration.
