BUCKLAND — Selectmen’s Chairman John “Rob” Riggan is not seeking re-election to a second term in office.
This news comes as nomination papers for town offices in the May 1 annual town election are now available.
“I had planned to serve two terms,” said Riggan, “but I’m leaving to focus on my work. It wasn’t an easy decision,” said Riggan, a writer and editor. “It’s a good town and, frankly, I enjoyed it,” he said of his selectman’s term, which ends on June 30.
Zachary Turner of North Street has taken out nomination papers for the selectman’s seat.
Cynthia Caparoso is not seeking re-election to a three-year term on the Finance Committee. And Amy Love is not running for her three-year term as a Buckland Library Trustee.
Sammy Purington resigned last month from his seat on the Board of Assessors, but Elizabeth Cerone has taken out nomination papers for Purington’s one-year unexpired term.
One of Buckland’s seats on the Mohawk Trail Regional School District Committee has been vacant since December, when board member Glenn Cardinal died. The position is also open for a three-year term.
The incumbents of the following town positions have indicated they will be running for re-election to the following offices. All are for three-year terms unless otherwise noted:
Pamela Guyette, Board of Assessors; Terry Estes, Board of Health; Benjamin Murray, Finance Committee; Town Clerk, Janice Purington; Constable, Paul Herbert; and Phoebe Walker, Moderator (a one-year term).
The town clerk’s office is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
