CONWAY — Registered town Democrats will hold their annual Caucus later this month in the Town Hall.
Conway’s Caucus will be held Saturday, Feb. 25, at 10 a.m., to elect three delegates and three alternates to the 2017 Mass. Democratic Convention, scheduled June 3 in Lowell.
“At that time, Democrats from across the state will gather for the purpose of endorsing statewide candidates,” a press statement reads. “The names of those candidates who receive 15 percent of the state convention vote will be placed on the 2017 Democratic Primary ballot.”
All registered Democrats in Conway can attend the February caucus. In order to receive a nomination, delegate and alternate candidates must give written consent and be present. Votes will be cast through secret ballots. The statement notes that those who aren’t elected “may apply to be add-on delegates in the following categories: youth, minority and disabled.”
“As the newly elected chair of our Mass. Democratic Party, I want to welcome you to this caucus process and express my commitment to ensuring that the delegates elected throughout our state will reflect our values and our diversity,” state DNC Chairman Gus Bickford said in a statement. “We face new challenges in the current political landscape and need to address them with firm resolve.”
The press release notes that “discrimination on the basis of race, sex, age, color, creed, national origin, religious, ethnic identity, sexual orientation or economic status in the conduct of the caucus is strictly prohibited.”
