As another winter snow storm heads into the area, local emergency personnel are preparing for about a foot of snow that is expected to hit the area today.
Lenore Correia, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Taunton, said northern Franklin County should expect 12 to 18 inches of snow, while southern Franklin County should expect 8 to 12 inches.
Most of that was expected to come through the night and into the morning, according to Correia. Incoming snow and wind drifts up to 45 mph will create low visibility conditions today.
“The morning commute could be dangerous,” Correia said.
After Monday, Correia said the region’s next chance for snow will be Wednesday, where chances of additional snow will be widespread throughout the county.
An Eversource spokesman said the company is monitoring the weather and preparing as needed. As of Sunday night there hadn’t been any major outages in Franklin County.
“We watch the forecast and prepare for severe weather and we’re ready to go if needed,” Mitch Gross said.
Local dispatch said Sunday afternoon that they had not had a lot of serious accidents because of the snow, but had received several reports of cars sliding off the road.
“If folks can stay, I would suggest they stay home,” State Police Sgt. Gary Hebert said.
Montague and Greenfield Public Works Departments were out treating the roads on Sunday afternoon as snow was falling.
Correia said residents should expect the bulk of the snow to fall Sunday night into Monday morning.
