ORANGE — An Orange woman is accused of stealing more than $900 from her employer in September.
Jessica L. Ramirez, 28, pleaded innocent in Orange District Court on Jan. 27 to larceny over $250 embezzlement after police say she was seen on camera removing cash from a rent-collection bag while working at the Weatherheads Convenience Store in Erving.
According to Erving Police Officer Heath Cummings, he responded to a call at 4:15 p.m. regarding a larceny that had reportedly occurred the day before. Cummings said he saw surveillance footage of a while female, later identified as Ramirez, entering the store’s back room with a cash bag the owners use to rent from tenants at Weatherheads Apartments and Weatherheads Storage. Cummings reported Ramirez appeared to unzip the bag while her back was to the camera, remove “a large amount of cash” and put it down the front of her pants before zipping the bag and putting it into a ledger book.
Cummings learned Ramirez had collected $935 in rent that day.
According to Cummings, Ramirez would not return his calls but she was summoned to court to answer for the incident. Ramirez is due for a pretrial conference on March 10.
