NORTHAMPTON — A Greenfield man who police say initiated a car chase through seven western Massachusetts towns in September pleaded not guilty to charges Thursday.

Frank Cabrera faces charges in Hampshire Superior Court of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of leaving the scene of property damage, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

His bail remains at $50,000 cash, the same amount attorneys agreed to when Cabrera was arraigned in Eastern Hampshire District Court in September. He’s expected to return to court April 27.

Authorities said Massachusetts State Police troopers unsuccessfully attempted to pull over Cabrera’s SUV after it was reportedly involved in an accident Sept. 8, in which damage was reported.

Shortly thereafter, Hadley police received a report of a vehicle driving recklessly with a description that matched Cabrera’s, police said.

The chase went through Hadley, Amherst, Leverett, Sunderland, Shutesbury, Wendell and Montague.
