Northfield Mount Hermon School took five of the top 10 spots to finish atop the girls’ team standings in the Mount Institute Ski League Wednesday at Berkshire East Ski Resort in Charlemont.
NMH won the team race with 237 points. Mohawk Trail Regional High School placed second with 221 and Deerfield Academy came in third with 207.
Shannon Duffy led the Hoggers with her third-place finish in the slalom with a combined time of 74.56 seconds. Shannon Dorogi followed in fourth at 76.22, Heidi Leeds placed seventh (78.86), Mairead Collins was ninth (80.98) and Alex Brooke came in 10th (81.34).
Ashley LaCross was the Warriors’ top skier, finishing second in 74.48. Teammate Erin Laffond placed eighth (80.41).
Valerie Hetherington of Deerfield won the individual honors in 72.44, while Big Green teammate Anna Scott took sixth (77.64).
Deerfield A won the boys’ team race with 254 points, followed by NMH-A with 250 and Eaglebrook School with 229.
Sevrin Sarachek led the Big Green by placing third in the slalom in a combined 67.69, followed by Garrett Alexander in fourth (68.39) and JP Patton in eighth (72.55).
NMH took the fifth through seventh individually, with Aran Zecha (69.58), Lane Henry (70.23) and Isaac Foster (70.42) finishing in that order.
Eaglebrook’s Daniel Cho placed second overall (67.25) and teammate Nate Hazen was ninth (73.41).
Hockey
Chris Camelio scored twice to lead Deerfield over Westminster School, 4-1, in prep boys’ hockey action Wednesday in Deerfield.
Sean McAvoy and Theo Lenz also scored for the Big Green, while Mike Holland had two assists and Wiggle Kerbrat, Thomas Dale, Justin Marler and Harry Gahagan all had one assist.
Thomas Gale earned the win in goal.
Deerfield’s junior varsity squad beat Cushing Academy, 5-4.
In girls’ hockey, Meghan Halloran registered a hat trick and Mary Edmonds added a goal and three assists as Deerfield downed Pomfret School, 7-1, to retain the Hastings Cup on Wednesday in Deerfield.
Erin DeMarco collected a goal and an assist, Mae Emerson and Ali Fujiyoshi also scored, Christina Halloran added three assists and Jenna Greenbaum and Ali Fujiyoshi both contributed an assist for the Big Green.
The Big Green junior varsity tied Taft School, 5-5.
Basketball
Andrew Platek poured in 31 points, including hitting 6 of 11 from 3-point land, and grabbed 6 rebounds to lead NMH over South Kent, 85-77, in a NEPSAC AAA Conference boys’ basketball action Wednesday in South Kent, Conn.
Kellan Grady added 13 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds for the Hoggers (14-5), who led 43-23 at halftime.
South Kent dropped to 15-3 overall.
NMH travels to Rhode Island College for the National Prep School Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. NMH faces St. Andrew’s at 1:30 on Saturday and Helsinki (Finland) Basketball Academy on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
Other scores
In girls’ basketball, Deerfield dropped a 68-37 decision to New Hampton School … the DA boys’ squash team downed Westminste, 6-1.
Frontier tops Hopkins
Adan Hernandez scored 12 points on Wednesday and Frontier Middle School defeated Hopkins Middle School, 55-18, in a boys’ basketball game in Hadley.
Patrick Boyden added 10 points in the win, and Peter Carey dumped in 8 points. Frontier finished with 11 scorers in the win.
Dylan Fil led Hopkins with 10 points.
