Artists from the Sawmill River Arts Gallery in Montague Center are donating a portion of December sales to Community Action’s Heat It Up program to help families in the region stay warm this winter.

The gallery decided on the donation because they had done other fundraisers when the gallery first opened and felt that Community Action does a lot for families in need.

“They do really great things in our community,” owner-artist Jaye Pope said. “They are sort of the hub of New England in need.”

They were able to donate $755 to the effort, which is working to raise $50,000 to help families in need heat their homes in the winter.

The gallery is owned and run by 14 local artisans, with nearly all of the owners participating and each deciding what percentage to give to give to Community Action.

Gallery representatives are planning to present the check to Community Action today.

“We live in our community, we love our community,” Pope said. “It’s just a natural fit that we want to give back.”
