Mohawk Trail Regional High School won the South Division and Frontier Regional School finished third in the opening race of the PVIAC Alpine Ski League season Thursday at Berkshire East Ski Resort in Charlemont.
The Warriors unofficially finished 1.23 second ahead to Northampton High School, with the Red Hawks close behind (official results were not available at press time).
Mohawk’s Ashley LaCross was the top skier in the South and placed third overall in 34.77 seconds. Frontier’s Corriann Delaney was the South runner-up and finished fourth overall in 35.32.
Frontier’s Alina Smiarowski placed sixth in the South and 13th overall in 38.31, while Mohawk’s Erin Laffond finished eighth in the South and 16th overall in 39.53.
Frontier’s Anna Zera and Mohawk’s Taylor Loomis tied for 17th overall in 39.99, Mohawk’s Tyler Rice was 20th overall in 40.85, and Mohawk’s Lizzie Herzig came in 22nd overall in 41.90.
Mohawk’s boys finished a solid second in the North team race with a final time of 107.27, but that placed them well behind powerhouse Longmeadow High School’s combined finishing time of 98.88.
The Warriors’ Bennett Boucias placed sixth in the North and 12th overall in 25.34, followed by teammate Dan White, who was eighth in the North and 14th overall in 25.96.
Mohawk’s other scorers on the evening were James Harrison, who came in 36th overall in 27.95, and Ryan Burke, who placed 37th overall in 28.02.
Frontier’s top skier was Billy Prunier, who placed 45th overall in 28.87. Teammate Ben Martino was 56th in 29.80. The Red Hawks had only three skiers and did not post a team score in the South.
