Jade Tyler and Nick Taylor both swam to Western Massachusetts Individual qualifying times on Wednesday and the Turners Falls High School swimming and diving teams split a Constitution Division meet against Springfield School of Science & Technology in Turners Falls.

The girls’ team defeated Sci-Tech, 65-7, led by Tyler, who qualified for her third WMass event this winter when she won the 100-yard butterfly in 1 minute, 11.20 seconds. She previously qualified for the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle. Tyler also won the 200 free on Wednesday in 2:16.70.

Olivia Whitter was also a double winner, with victories in the 100 breast (1:18.47) and the 200 individual medley (2:40.16). Melissa Hersey won the 100 back (1:26.15) and was second in the 100 free (1:14.30), while Allison Wheeler won the 100 free (1:11.53) and was second in the 200 IM (3:08.82). Abigail Johnson won the 50 free (35.43) and was followed by Lillian Poirier, who took second in 35.83. Jordan Muniz placed second in both the 200 free (3:08.24) and the 100 back (1:37.00).

The 200 medley relay team of Hersey, Whittier, Tyler and Wheeler won in 2:21.75, while the 200 free relay team of Johnson, Poirier, Peyton Emery and Muniz won in 2:31.23.

• On the boys’ side, Taylor qualified for the 100 butterfly but the Indians did not have enough swimmers to fill out all three relays and it cost them as they were edged by Sci-Tech, 46-42.

Taylor finished second in the butterfly in 1:05.64 to qualify, and he also won the 500 free in 7:15.97. Cameron Bradley was the one who beat Taylor in the 100 fly, winning the event in 1:03.49, but he had previously qualified for WMass. Bradley also won the 200 free (2:08.26) on the day. Nick Martin won the 100 free (1:15.63) and was second in the 50 free (33.86), and Chase Blair was second in the 200 free (2:45.29). The 400 free relay team of Martin, Blair, Taylor and Bradley won in 4:44.52.

Wrestling

FC Tech 54, Granby 9 — Franklin County Technical School recorded eight pins — three of them inside of 30 seconds — and went on to beat Granby High School, 54-9, in a Suburban League wrestling match Wednesday in Turners Falls.

Peter Saladino (113 pounds) recorded the fastest pin of the evening for the Eagles when he dropped Jacob Benson in 23 seconds. Spencer Telega (160) nearly finished his match as quickly, as he felled Jacob Jones in 25 seconds, and Jaden Sadlowski (132) was right behind them, pinning Eric Puffer in 28 seconds.

Chris Ludwig (145) also recorded a fast pin, as he finished off Phil Roberts in 35 seconds.

Brody Wood (170) won by fall over Eddie Glaszcz in 1 minute.

Other wins via pin for Franklin Tech included Skyler Rouse (126) over Kyle Roe in 2:48, Kyle Brunelle (106) over Christian Perez in 3:19, and Jordan Bashaw (152) over Ben Rokowski in 4:34.

The Eagles also made it through the match without allowing a single pin, losing three matches via decision.

Franklin Tech (12-1, 3-0) travels to the Bert Burger Tournament on Saturday at Chicopee High School at 9 a.m.

Athol 47, Frontier 24 — Athol High School had six wrestlers win via pin during a 47-24 Tri-County League victory over Frontier Regional School Wednesday night in Athol.

John Mahony pinned Tanner Finch in 56 seconds at 106 pounds for the Red Raiders, and Caleb Cox pinned Jordan McDonough in 22 seconds at 113 pounds. Merrick Decker stuck Bailey Murry in 1 minute, 30 seconds at 120 pounds, and Ryan White got Connor Pettis 28 seconds into the third period for the fourth Red Raider pin of the day.

Derek Erali pinned David Grover 39 seconds into the bout at 152, and Trevor Mousseau pinned Joe Hildreth in 3:35 into the bout at 182. Mike Gray picked up five points when he won by tech fall at 160 pounds over Nate Austin.

Ian McMillan pinned Kendrick Raymond 58 seconds into the bout at 138 to pick up six points for Frontier, and Josiah Murry pinned Joe Gray at 3:46 of the bout at 145.

South Hadley 34, Pioneer 17 — South Hadley High School doubled up Pioneer Valley Regional School, 34-17, in a TCL wrestling match Wednesday at Messer Gymnasium in Northfield.

Tristan Dresser (145) pinned Alex Schenker in 44 seconds, Bryson Spinner (126) downed Jody Solzak in 2:57, and Alex Tyson (170) won by technical fall, 19-4, over Jeremy Rodriguez for the Panthers’ wins.

Mohawk 42, Pathfinder 42 — Mohawk Trail Regional High School won four matches by pin and went on to earn a 42-42 tie with Pathfinder Regional Vocational Technical High School Wednesday night in Buckland.

Jaden Moore won by first period pin at 120 pounds, and Dylan Wooldridge won by third period pin at 132 pounds. Mason Biagini won by first period pin at 160 pounds, and Gabe Bower won by first period pin at 182. The Warriors also won three matches by forfeits.

Mohawk coach Mark Biagini said he was happy with the progress being made by a Mohawk team that has just three wrestlers in high school and the rest in junior high.

Hockey

Chicopee 7, Turners Falls 1 — Chicopee High School scored four times in the first period and remained unbeaten with a 7-1 Fay-Wright Division hockey victory over Turners Falls Wednesday night at Smead Arena in Springfield.

Ryan McDonough led the Pacers with two goals and two assists, and Nick Beem added a pair of goals and one helper. John Baker chipped in a goal and three assists and Mike Palermo had a goal and two assists.

Bryce Jordan’s unassisted tally in the first period accounted for the Indians’ offense. Michael McGoldrick recorded 28 saves in goal.
