GREENFIELD — Police arrested two people following a traffic stop Monday evening after a Montague K9 found a large stash of drugs in the glovebox.
According to a public statement on the Greenfield Police Department’s Facebook page, both the car’s driver, Samantha Carey, 27, of 32 Water St. of Greenfield, and 35-year-old Jhims Grand-Pierre of 73 Walnut St. Apt. 1 in Athol, were arrested and charged with possessing heroin with intent to distribute, conspiracy to violate drug laws and being present where heroin was kept.
Officer Felix Ramos noticed a vehicle around 6:40 p.m. that police officials suspected had previously “been involved in drug transactions,” the post reads.
Ramos pulled the car over on River Street for illegally tinted headlights and windows. A short while later, following an investigation, police searched the vehicle and called Officer James Ruddock and K9 Artie from Montague Police Department to help.
“Artie made a positive alert to the area near the glove box. Upon a closer examination of the glove box, Officer Ramos noticed a hidden bag with 400 bags of what is believed to be heroin, which are commonly used for distribution,” the police said in the post.
Following the arrests, bail was set at $1,000 for Carey, and $5,000 for Grand-Pierre. The two were taken to the Franklin County House of Correction pending arraignment.
