SUNDERLAND — The driver of a white van was injured in an accident around 10:30 Thursday morning on Old Amherst Road.
According to Sunderland Police Chief Erik Demetropulos, the van was traveling toward North Main Street when it crossed lanes and went off the roadway, striking objects and shrubbery in front of an apartment building until it overturned. He estimated the vehicle was traveling about 20 mph at the time it left the roadway.
Demetropulos said South County EMS took the male driver to a hospital. State police assisted Sunderland Police, and a state police reconstruction team was on its way. By 12:50 p.m., one lane was reopened on Old Amherst Road.
