Pan Am Railways has worked hard to deserve its reputation as the North Korea of North American railroading when it comes to communicating effectively.
But you can not fault a railway for not reporting a derailment that no one knew happened, nor for not reporting crossing damages that no one was aware of.
However, why Pan Am does not wish to explain this likely chain of events to the very people who are in a position to help run the business profitably — politicians and first responders — is a bit confusing. Railroading is a tough business in New England and the Maritimes. Pan Am Railways needs all the help they can get.
