Would it be possible for this newspaper to give those who voted for Trump a break? The ones that Hillary called “deplorable.” A recent “My Turn” quotes someone who claims Trump voters misogyny, when spelled correctly, means “HateWomen.” Comment is ugly sour grapes!
Almost every day, this paper has something negative about Trump on the front page and many others throughout the paper follow. We also are blessed with unflattering Trump cartoons. The editorial page usually has an editorial that implies peace and love but between the lines what oozes out is an anti-Trump message. Many letters appear to spread fear and warn of the horror that will soon be with us.
Then there are those who think they are so clever when they take a Christmas traditional story like “Twas the night before Christmas” and change this beautiful story with words that make it politically biased. The writers are not clever, they are foolish!
I recently was away for the holidays and was catching up on my newspaper readings. I soon realized I was in The Recorder land when I saw the words referring to Trump as a “charlatan” and “unhinged ignoramus.”
Trump was not my favorite of the Republican candidates, but whether you like him or not, you have to give him some credit. He started out as a complete joke, said one outrageous thing after another, but the crowds got bigger and bigger. He spent $110 million of his own money and is beholden to no one. The Republican elitists couldn’t stand him. Democrats, of course, were against him. Hollywood and the celebrities worked hard against him also. Only one major newspaper across the nation endorsed him. The press said he didn’t stand a chance.
Remember the maps? The media said Hillary had clear sailing to victory. I bought into the media’s propaganda and prepared myself for a Hillary landslide, but Trump won! Trump won without Debbie Wasserman Schultz pulling the strings in his back. He also won without having someone giving him the questions before the debate — as they did with Hillary.
Trump not only won but he had coattails, something Obama was never able to have. Trump won the electoral college vote. That’s the way we elect a president. When it comes to the poplar vote, remove California — where Hillary received 4 million-plus votes — and you have another picture.
If you don’t like the Electoral College, contact your representative and tell them to do something about it.
Another result of Trump’s win is that he ended the Clinton and Bush dynasties, at least for the present.
Presently, the Democratic party is at a very low point. Its power is at the lowest it has been in the last century, not decade, but century. The White House, both houses of Congress, majority of governors and state legislators are all led by the Republicans. The Democrats now have as much power as a hand signalling for a tornado to stop.
Democrats missed a warning that this might happen during the mid-term election of 2014. Obama said “the election was about him and his policies.” Bad news. The voters gave him a thumbs down and the Democrats were trounced.
Power in the two-party system can change very quickly. I highly suggest that those that are fearful and dislike Trump form a committee and come up with ideas and attempt to change the direction of power.
In two years, we will have another mid-term election. Usually, the party in power loses some of its power. There will be 25 Senate seats up for grabs.
Democrats must be careful not to put up a candidate that is incompetent and being investigated by the FBI. Not a winning combination.
If the Democrats lose again, we will be hearing what we’re hearing now — it’s the Russian’s fault or the FBI’s fault. Or it’s the fault of those uneducated white men in the Rust Belt who sit in bars and watch Fox news.
Trump has been called about every nasty word in this paper that one can think of, so now they are moving on and attacking his children. An attack on Ivanka is the latest.
Someone recently wrote that Trump would never be their president. The writer can sit and pout but on Jan. 20, Donald Trump will be the president of 300 million Americans.
All presidents have high hopes when they take office. Maybe this paper will be a little less biased under Trump’s leadership all will go well. We hope.
