DEERFIELD — Slippery roadways covered with ice contributed to a few accidents in town throughout the morning Wednesday, including a rollover on Upper Road.
According to police, the driver of a red Jeep Cherokee lost control and flipped into a snowbank around 10:30 a.m., crushing the roof and prompting emergency crews to respond.
The driver wasn’t seriously injured. Police said the crash was caused by “black ice.”
According to a post on the Deerfield Police Department’s Facebook page, the driver was taken by a friend to the hospital. Police say the section of the road where the accident happened was in the shade, which may have caused ice to form.
Along with local police, Deerfield Fire Department was also called to help and clean up the scene.
Elsewhere in town Wednesday morning, state and local police officers were called to three accidents on Route 116, between Routes 5 and 10 and the Conway town line.
Besides the rollover on Upper Road, no one was hurt.
As noted in another, separate Deerfield Police Facebook post, “iced-over roadway was a factor in all the crashes.”
