SOUTH DEERFIELD — A special evening of antiques appraisals with Douglas Bilodeau of Douglas Auctioneers will be held at Tilton Library on North Main Street Jan. 11 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Community members are invited to bring up to two items for appraisal. There is no charge for the event, but donations are welcome. Participants must register in advance for a time slot in the library. Snow date is Jan. 18.

The antiques appraisal evening is being offered as part of Tilton Library’s 100th anniversary celebration. A re-dedication ceremony and birthday party held Nov. 5 kicked off the year-long program of special events. Upcoming programs include a book discussion Feb. 16 of Booth Tarkington’s 1916 novel “Seventeen” and a talk by Barry Dietz on Robert Frost slated for March 29. All events are free and open to the public. More information can be found at www.tiltonlibrary.org.

Originally dedicated Nov. 14, 1916, funds to build and furnish Tilton Library came from the estate of local storekeeper Chauncey B. Tilton, the town, fundraising events sponsored by the South Deerfield Women’s Club and private donations.

As the library begins its second century, plans are being made for an addition that will provide more room for its collections, a dedicated space for young adults and community meeting space.
