ATHOL — Police are searching for an armed man who tried to rob someone at an ATM on Main Street Wednesday night.

The incident happened in front of the Athol Savings Bank at 444 Main St. around 8 p.m., according to Police Lt. Kevin Heath, who said the robber reportedly showed a gun to someone using the ATM but “didn’t get any money and fled on foot.”

“He approached the subject at the ATM machine, showed a firearm, and told the person to give him all the money,” Heath said. Heath said the man ran because the person at the ATM didn’t have any money.

There also weren’t any photographs from the ATM available.

Heath described the robber as “a white male, approximately 5 feet, 8 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches with dark clothing,” noting that the crime is still under investigation.

If anyone has information to help with the investigation, they are asked to contact Athol Police Department at 978-249-3232.
