Here are this week’s bird sightings from the Voices of Audubon for western Massachusetts.
A Harris’ sparrow has been coming to a feeder at Otis Avenue in Dalton.
A pink-footed goose is still being seen at the campus pond and the fields near the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.
An Iceland gull continues to be reported in Pittsfield, and another Iceland gull along with a lesser black-backed gull have been noted at Turners Falls. A canvasback was also found at Turners Falls.
A northern shoveler was seen on Cheshire Lake and a red-necked grebe was at the southern end of the Quabbin Reservoir.
The red-headed woodpecker was still being reportedd at Lake Wallace in Belchertown.
A rough-legged hawk was found in Lee and a northern shrike in Dalton.
Other uncommon reported included American wigeon, wood duck, ring-necked duck, bufflehead, common loon, black vulture, Cooper’s hawk, sharp-shinned hawk, peregrine falcon, merlin and American kestrel.
Also, belted kingfisher, northern flicker, sapsucker, horned lark, snow bunting, red-breasted nuthatch, Carolina wren, eastern bluebird, hermit thrush, brown thrasher, cedar waxwing, yellow-rumped warbler, fox sparrow, field sparrow, vesper sparrow, rusty blackbird, red crossbill, purple finch, pine siskin and evening grosbeak.
