WENDELL — The bicyclist injured in a hit-and-run in Wendell on Friday is home from the hospital, but faces a long road to recovery, according to a woman who identified herself as his significant other.
Meanwhile, police know of an individual who they expect to summon to Orange District Court in connection with the incident, according to Mary Carey, spokeswoman for the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office. As of late Sunday, no information on the suspect or the charges was available, Carey said.
Daniel Levangie, 40, of Wendell, returned from UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester on Sunday evening, Gina Lombardi said. Levangie had been airlifted to Worcester via LifeFlight on Friday evening.
Lombardi said Levangie has two fractures in one vertebra, another fracture in his skull and many surface wounds to his head. She said he is still processing what happened.
“For what happened, we’re really lucky with the outcome,” she said around 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Lombardi said she and Levangie have been overwhelmed with the kindness and support shown by friends and family members since the incident. She said she had 22 phone messages from over the weekend.
According to Wendell Police Chief Ed Chase, Levangie had been riding a bicycle on Lockes Village Road when he was struck by an unknown vehicle. The call went out shortly after 5 p.m. and Wendell police and firefighters responded.
