TURNERS FALLS — As the Shea Theater in downtown Turners Falls continues to raise funds for renovations, an anonymous donor has offered a $10,000 donation if other donors from the community and business raise the last $25,000 needed to wrap up the campaign by Dec. 31.
The Campaign, called “Light Up the Shea,” has a goal of $310,000. The theater is $35,000 away from that goal, and has raised money through donations as well as an additional $150,000 in funding from the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts.
The campaign started about a year ago, in late 2015, and many of the renovations have already been completed. The final $35,000 will go toward new sound and lighting systems as well as final improvements to the lobby and concession stand.
The Theater has already done an overhaul of the lobby and concession area, replaced carpet, painted and refinished hardwood flooring. They have also renovated the offices and performers’ rooms as well as replacing the roof, heating and air conditioning.
David Sharken, spokesman for the theater, said they have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support by the community and the final donor who has offered the $10,000.
He said the community’s investment is important because the health of downtown is tied to the health of the theater, which brings music and entertainment to the area.
“We encourage folks to help with this amazing revitalization of downtown,” he said.
Contributions to the theater can be made at their website, www.sheatheater.org or by mailing a check to P.O. Box 773, Turners Falls, MA, 01376.
