TURNERS FALLS — The Gill-Montague Regional School Committee is holding its second mascot educational event this Thursday, Dec. 8.

Laura Valdiviezo, from the University of Massachusetts College of Education, will be speaking about the multicultural and social justice perspectives of the issue.

This is the second of four events the district is hosting to help inform the School Committee ahead of its decision to either keep or change the Turners Falls High School “Indians” mascot.

The mascot, currently an Indian, has been the center of a public debate since a group asked the school committee to review the appropriateness of the mascot, and the committee voted to examine it in September.

The educational events are presentations with a question and answer portion at the end.

The event will be begin in the auditorium of Turners Falls High School at 6:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
