BUCKLAND — Just in time for winter, construction has been completed on the new $1.1 million Clesson Brook Road bridge, which is now open to traffic between Hawley and Buckland.
The new pre-cast bridge replaced an older bridge that was badly damaged during Tropical Storm Irene five years ago. Irene, a “500-year” flood, swept so much debris through the stream that the old bridge footings were undermined.
The new bridge was constructed within four months by the J.H. Maximillian construction company, with the roadway closed to speed up the construction process. It is about 48 feet wide, with 3-foot tall guardrails.
The town received an $850,000 grant to cover most of the cost, with the town providing about $250,000.
BUCKLAND — A parking ban for the winter will be in effect from Thursday through March 31.
No overnight parking on any town street, roadway, or sidewalk will be allowed between midnight and 6 a.m.
More information is available at Town Hall.
