SUNDERLAND — Two cars and a school bus collided at Old Amherst Road and Route 116 just after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
No children were hurt.
About 15 minutes after the 911 call went out, rain poured down on a blue Honda SUV that was perpendicular to a red Honda Civic facing a yellow school bus — its hood crushed from impact, airbag hanging over the steering wheel.
According to Sunderland Police Sgt. Brendan Lyons, “it appears that the blue car was heading north, the red car was heading south,” when the two collided on Route 116. The SUV ricocheted into the school bus, which was halted on Old Amherst Road, damaging the front left fender. Lyons said no one was hurt, including a few students who were on the bus returning home from school.
He said two people were evaluated at the scene by South County EMS, but weren’t taken to the hospital.
Police blocked off one lane of the busy road, diverting traffic around the accident. Along with police and EMTs, town firefighters were also called to help out.
